O último proprietário desta residência pertenceu a uma tradicional família de cafeicultores paulista que abrigou a primeira Assembleia de Republicanos, em 1873, conhecida como Convenção de Itu. Em 1921, o Estado comprou o imóvel e o transformou em museu em memória ao movimento republicano. A casa, construída em taipa de pilão com divisórias em pau-a-pique, é um exemplar da arquitetura colonial paulista. A fachada apresenta composição simétrica, tendo como eixo principal a porta de entrada arrematada com arco pleno e o pavimento superior revestido de azulejos, arrematada por platibanda que oculta o telhado de telhas de barro. O edifício passou a integrar o patrimônio da Universidade de São Paulo em 1934.
The last owner of the residence was a traditional family of coffee growers in São Paulo who held the First Assembly of Republicans in 1873, known as Itu Convention. In 1921, the state acquired the property and transformed it into a museum in memory of the republican movement, and the first years of the new regime. The University of São Paulo incorporated it in 1934. The two-storey house, built of rammed earth with dividers of wattle and daub, is an example of the colonial architecture in São Paulo. The façade has symmetrical composition, having as main axis the gateway topped with round arch, with its upper floor tiled and finished off by cornice that hides the roof of clay tiles.
