A antiga Fazenda Monte Alegre, construída em 1874, foi desapropriada em 1940 para instalação de uma escola técnica de agricultura, mais tarde o campus da Universidade de São Paulo em Ribeirão Preto. O patrimônio arquitetônico é representante de três momentos significativos para a história da região: o ciclo do café, a escola de agricultura (com feições neocoloniais) e a dinâmica universitária. É também considerado patrimônio ambiental, dada a área remanescente da Mata Atlântica que abriga. O campus passou por diversos processos de expansão, e seu conjunto edificado busca conciliar o patrimônio original às novas intervenções.
The former Monte Alegre Farm, built in 1874, was expropriated in 1940 to install a technical school of agriculture, later the campus of the University of São Paulo in Ribeirão Preto. The architectural heritage is representative of three significant moments in the history of the region: the coffee cycle, the school of agriculture (with neo-colonial features), and the university dynamics. It is also considered environmental heritage, given its remaining area of the Atlantic Forest. The campus has undergone several expansion processes, and its built cluster has sought to reconcile the original heritage to the new interventions.
